The outgoing Mitsubishi Triton is an 8-year-old machine, therefore an all-new model was bound to happen sooner or lately. Fortunately, it happened sooner than expected and the fifth-gen Triton boasts with stylistic cues previewed by the GR-HEV Concept at the 2013 edition of the Geneva Motor Show.

Also known as the L200 in various parts of the world, Mitsubishi’s compact truck was always a versatile pickup in its segment. As its always the case with revamped models, the 2015 Mitsubishi Triton is more enticing aesthetic-wise than its agricultural-looking predecessor, but also boasts with a better cabin design, fit & finish and engine lineup.

As you can see from the video and gallery below, the front fascia is all polished chrome and jewel-like headlights with LED DRLs, while the rear quarters incorporate taillights somewhat similar to the ones one might find on the Ford Ranger. All things considered, this workhorse looks the part in a segment dominated by the Toyota Hilux, which looks the same as ever frankly.

Available as a Single Cab, Double Cab or Club Cab

The 2015 Mitsubishi Triton / L200 will be built exclusively in Thailand, with first deliveries coming to Australia by mid-2015. The Japanese manufacturer also disclosed that in time, the compact pickup is going to be sold in roughly 150 countries worldwide.

The Outlander SUV-inspired steering wheel and climate control unit, as well as the clean and minimalistic interior design makes the Triton a nice place to spend time in. If we’re to single out a potential drawback, that is the middle rear seat, which sits higher than the other two and is further compromised by the transmission tunnel.

Lastly, let’s run through powertrain options. Available in either rear-wheel or AWD guise, the 2015 Mitsubishi Triton / L200 can be had with a choice of four powerplants. Two 2.4L units are available: a petrol with 128 PS and 194 Nm (143 lb-ft) and a turbo diesel with 181 PS and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) of torque.

As for the other two remaining engines, they both displace 2.5 liters and run on diesel. In terms of grunt, the first develops 128 PS and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft), while the uprated variant boasts with 178 PS and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of twist. Depending on the engine choice, Mitsubishi offers the new Triton / L200 with a five or six-speed manual, as well as a five-speed automatic transmission for effortless shifting.
