Re: cutie de transfer incapatinata

Cu traducerea Google nu am inteles mare lucru ca stiti si voi cam cum traduce , poate stie unu dintre voi ma multa engleza , Multumesc ! On Monday I got the Borg Warner out. There is very little clearance between the back of the input housing and the floor pan. I had to remove the transmission frame mount and allow it to sag onto the cross-member before I could slide the transfer case away from the splined trans output shaft. I left the parking brake drum attached; seemed to be plenty of room on that side. I got all but the last bolt (nut) off from underneath. I could get a wrench on it but no room to turn! Finally after wasting 30 minutes trying to devise a way to get it off, I gave in, ripped out the console, drilled out the rivets, and easily got the last nut off. In fact, I'm not sure it can be done any other way. It also made removing the original linkage much easier. Things to remove: speedo cable, e-brake cable (remove and push through the floor), dual vent lines, t-case temp sensor, solenoid plug, linkage for low-high, pass side frame mount (I ended up removing the drivers as well to lower tranny), obviously both driveshafts and the exhaust system y-pipe and cats, o2 sensors, and the 6 bolts securing the case to trans backing plate.

I got the new case bolted in yesterday. Its really heavy and awkward, very unbalanced. The rear muffler gets in the way, but doesn't need to be removed. To get rid of some dead weight, I removed the e-brake drum assembly. I used a floor jack and got the case on the jack seat on its side with the trans input side up. This gets it closer so you don't have to jack as high, but be prepared to balance the case as you jack it. Two people would be very helpful for this!-but I did it alone. Once you get the trans output shaft into the opening on the t-case, I swung the whole case sideways and approximately into position...repositioning the jack to support the case again. Note...this takes some strength. Because I had nicely greased up the trans shaft splines, it did slip off and nearly beamed me but I caught it, somehow repositioned it, and secured with a second jack. Be very careful! Lining up the splines was a pain, because you have to get the upper and lower guide bolts to align with their holes first, and its all a balancing act while laying under the truck! A combination of working from underneath, from up top through the access panel, and jacking up the transmission to improve alignment finally worked. Watch out for the high-low linkage to get in the way...don't ask how I know. Finally it all slides on and then bolt it up. The good news is that the rear of the t-case input housing is much shorter than the B/W case...no issue with the floor pan upon installation.

The linkage I got from the junkyard was complete, but completely frozen up...wouldn't move in any direction. They charged me $75 for it. I spent 1.5 hours completely disassembling it, cleaning everything, greasing, reassembling, etc. Before I connected the linkages, it worked smooth as butter in all directions. Upon hooking it up, the CDL worked great but the t-case was stuck in high (as is common on lots of Classics). Through the access plate, I tapped with a hammer got it free. Lubed it up, adjusted the alignment, and it works great. Installed the single breather vent and temp sensor. That's as far as I got so far, but undoubtedly is just small stuff now. The junkyard gave me the wrong driveshaft; they gave me a rear shaft when I need a front shaft, and also they gave me only the outer frame mount by not the inner that actually bolts to the t-case. They should have this stuff for me today. The e-brake cable mount on the t-case is not the same as on the B/W for the old '87 Range Rover LT230 I'm using, but I can modify it to work. Somebody cut two of the four front shaft bolts off, so I'll have to remove the front output to get two from the B/W case. Still need to figure out about wiring a diff-lock warning light into the cabin, should be easy. Obviously need to put the center console back together! Somebody welded my exhaust system together at the flange, so I had to sawzall it to get it off. Also, one catalytic converter is rattling, so I'll borrow a welder from work and replace the cat plus weld the exhaust back together where I cut it. Last, I'll add oil to the t-case since the junkyard drained it!

Then, back out on the trails!
