In case the friend who moved to Covasna happens to split his existence between Romania, Iraq and Scotland it seems to me that we have common friends :). In that case we almost met, 'cause I was supposed to join him in a trip from Maramures down to Covasna last year.

Happy to meet you, at least virtually :) By the way, you said something about some language barrier. I guess in your case it's kind of doubled, considering the 2 languages spoken there. The good thing is there're so many (more or less) English speakers in Romania that you have fair chances to communicate. Except maybe in offroad, the locals are not so used with it :)

Re: English speaking forum members

I must say I have been very lucky with language so far. Many people in Ojdula, especially the younger villagers speak English. I use a translator on my trips, who is one of the very few Romanians that lives in Ojdula. Great guy who can speak English, German and Hungarian, which is useful with locals and foreign guests alike.

We are looking for help, especially with logistical support if anyone is interested? You never know when you may have a breakdown in the mountains and forests. It has happened to me on a couple of occasions, which we managed to resolve there and then. I know one day this may not be practical so we are looking to list a network of friends that would be willing to help recover us in such an event. We would of course do the same for you! This is all subject to a telephone signal of course!

Cheers,

Paul

I'm sure you can start with the "phonebook"(the carte de telefon topic) where most of us posted our contact information. You just need to organize it for the areas you are interested in.

Re: English speaking forum members

Hi paul,

I am from Romania. I live in london , we moved here in 2001. Life is strange ,you see...we changed countries. I've read Neil's article about his visit to Romania. It looks like he's had a good time .He was brave to go there with the Freelander. Hopefully this will encourage more Brits to come and visit our contry. It's a shame that they don't do that more often, especially when Romania has got so much to offer (in offroad terms) compare with other destinations and it is much safer in so many aspects .

We will return to Romania this summer (wife and kids ). I wish you good luck with yor business. I know is not an easy thing to be in Romania, after having the experience of British way off running things.

Hopefully, in the near future, I will got time to visit Ojdula and surroundings and, if is not to much trouble,we will have a cup of tea :x

Cheers,

Lucian.
