Buna ziua !

 

 

 

In ochii mei are un look de Mini Countryman putin mai liftat. Si cu anvelopele alea palide pe jante mult prea mari, ma indoiesc ca a ajuns acolo, pe pietrele umede, de la sine putere.

 

Doar exista Evoque pentru experimente de design, eventual Freelander, chestii de-astea mai rotunjite. Trebuiau sa lase chestia patrata in pace, ca era perfecta asa. Poate doar sa-i mute volanul mai la dreapta, ca sa am si eu loc sa inchid usa, odata urcat, si ceva motoare mai serioase, daca tot erau pusi pe progres.

S-au luat dupa desteptii aia de la Ford, mai au un specimen derivat direct din conceptul Ford Bronco...

Defenderul are farmecul lui aparte asa patratos, daca au de gand sa treaca la asa ceva, nu cred sa mai aiba acelasi succes...

E un concept inca, dar dupa cum au dovedit cu Evoque si cu Jaguar CX 75 s-ar putea sa nu fie mari diferente intre concept si produsul final.

Sa speram ca nu se va renunta la sasiu si la puntile rigide macar.

Din pacate se pare ca va fi sclavul tendintelor in materie de motoare si se va alege cu un motor si mai mic, si anume cu cel de 2.2 diesel.

Deabia astept sa vad produsul final. Cu siguranta insa va fi mai confortabil.

Confort probabil ca va avea, asta e tendinta generala, nu numai la LR. Ramane de vazut daca isi va pastra capabilitatile in teren... Ma uitam zilele trecute la un Disco 4 si un Range Rover Sport: frumoase, confortabile, dar... m-a surprins garda extrem de mica: cca 15-17cm la protectiile laterale ale puntii spate! Daca vor elimina si sasiul, si vor adopta suspensii cu brate independente si pe puntea spate, clar Defenderul va ramane o amintire frumoasa si atat.

Disco4 are suspensie pneumatica.

Se poate ridica pana la 31 cm, conform specificatiei producatorului, iar garda la sol minima este de 18,5cm.

N-am avut nimic de masurat la mine... dar nu mi s-a parut a fi mai sus decat o Dacie... si aia avea 17 cm. Si ma refeream la partea cea mai de jos a puntii spate, nu la caroserie...

Da asta este noul concept LR Defender. Naspa. Sa speram ca modelul de serie sa fie doar pentru anumite piete, iar productia veche de Defender sa se pastreze pentru alte piete.

Eu as indrazni sa sper mai mult: sa lase modelele actuale asa cum sunt... iar conceptul sa se materializeze intr-un nou model al gamei, chiar daca va fi pana la urma un SUV.

Fresh rumours about the future of the Defender abound, following comments made by Colin Green, the Managing Director of Land Rover’s UK operations in a recently interview

 

In replacing the current Defender, it has been widely speculated that Land Rover would have to consider two options; either updating the current Defender’s construction with modern safety and emissions equipment, or create a new model on a platform that shares key components with other Land Rover models. Many have suggested that the latter course of action was the one already being taken and that work on the new model was underway. Surprisingly however, in the recent interview, Colin Green, has suggested that there’s a chance the model could be killed altogether. 'Another option [in replacing the current Defender] is that we abandon that section of the market.' he said in a recent interview. 'It’s our least preferred choice, because we have serviced that customer base for a long time, but there’s no point in servicing the customer and not the business. We have to make money and all three options are on the table.'

 

Re-engineer, replace or kill? It's a serious and genuine dilemma for Land Rover; The Defender - arguably, the Land Rover - is an automotive icon and the successor to the vehicle that actually built the brand. It is the one that stays true (as far as legislation and progress permits) to the original Land Rover principles and design unlike any other Land Rover product.

 

Whether the Defender fits with Land Rover’s current range of vehicles that combine modern electronics, advanced design, premium amenities and, almost as an afterthought, great off-road ability is another question altogether. What really matters is whether Land Rover can make enough money from the manufacture of Defenders for it to be worthwhile to continue? The Defender, largely unchanged since 1984 and not dissimilar to Land Rover models dating back more than sixty years, needs to be reengineered by 2016 so that it continue to be sold in Europe. As emissions, fuel economy, and crash regulations become ever more stringent, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for the current design to meet those statutes and be sold as a consumer vehicle. An example of this was the dropping of the model from Land Rover’s US range after 1997 because it wasn't equipped with airbags.

 

Brand purists and off-roaders are likely to be outraged but it's easy to understand where Colin Green’s point of view comes from. Decisions have to be made about whether any 'new' Defender should be designed to make the new model appeal to a wider cross section of car buyers than the current today’s customer base? Green seems to understand this, saying, 'If we get this wrong, we’re messing up one of the industry’s biggest icons. In that sense, it’s a tremendous responsibility.' There's also issues of whether a 'new' Defender would be good enough - and right enough - to be worthy of the prestigious nameplate?

 

Die-hard Defender afficianados should take heart from the fact that Jeep have successfully dealt with the same problem with the vehicle that gave the brand its name. And that Triumph reinvented the Bonneville... And BMW the Mini, despite the fact that the niche group of individuals - like myself - that bought, loved and lived the originals will never stop voicing their opinions of outrage and protestations that, 'the original was by far the best.' Rightly or wrongly we now live in a world where brands dominate so who'd throw away a brand as strong as the Defender, a byword for sturdy go-anywhere, toughness - I mean would Levis stop making blue jeans?

 

UPDATE: 04.08.11; despite recent reports (above) suggesting that the Land Rover Defender could be dropped, the rumour mill is now suggesting that a concept version of a completely redesigned Defender could be unveiled as early as September 2011 at the important Frankfurt Auto Show.

Cum se zice si mai sus, siguranta si normele de emisii au omorat vechiul Land Rover. Poate nu mai fac altul si chiar daca vor face o sa fie diferit de actualul.

Lumea se schimba si de multe ori nu in bine. Business-ul este mai presus de tot.

Nu e neaparat "business mai presus de toate"........

Designul ala, proiectarea masinii, componentele, motorizarea, electronizarea etc, toate s-au facut dupa niste studii de piata, din care, probabil, a rezultat ca "asta se cere !"

Acuma din ce in ce mai multi au telefoane mobile tip i-phone, dar foarte multi sunt nostalgici dupa robustetea si fiabilitatea unor 6310i.......Asa si la masini : asta din poze "se cere", dar le vrem inapoi pe alea pur mecanice.......

Astral, asta e doar un concept. L-au prezentat ca sa vada reactia clientilor. Ei nici nu stiu daca vor mai face noul Defender. Pana la motoarele care vor fi puse pe el e cale lunga. Daca il fac o sa apara prin 2015.

 

Cand am zis ca bussines-ul e mai presus ma gandeam la faza cu euro 4, euro 5 si asa mai departe. Sunt norme facute ca sa vanda masini noi.

Partea proasta la studiile astea de piata e ca majoritatea respondentilor una spun si alta gandesc. Adica, il intreaba operatorul ce ar vrea sa aiba la viitoarea lui masina de teren, iar el raspunde cu gandul la Ferrari sau Lamborghini... Si, astfel, dispar incet, incet de pe piata adevaratele masini de teren si-si fac locul "jipanele" de cocalari...

Si mie-mi pare a fi corceala de Freelander cu Mini. Ca si concept era normal sa il prezinte cu jante mari si gume cu talon jos, modelul de serie probabil nu ar aparea asa, dar oricum nu mai e Defender. E altceva. Piata de SUV e plina de modele, offroadere au ramas putine. De ce naiba le omoara si pe alea? Oare chiar nu mai e piata pentru masini simple si robuste?

Though only sold in limited quantities over a handful of sporadic years in North America, Land Rover’s Defender – a direct descendant of the first 1948 Land Rover – continues to thrive in many markets across the world. Our illustrator has now created what is believed to be an accurate representation of the next generation Land Rover Defender – reportedly codenamed Project Icon – set to be released for the 2012 model year.

 

Based heavily on the T5 steel platform chassis currently used in the Range Rover Sport and LR4, according to Britain’s Autocar, the Project Icon replacement will be capable of meeting the ever-stricter emissions and safety laws that have spelled doom for the Defender as U.S. laws outlawed the sale of new Defenders beginning in 1997 due to the lack of airbags.

 

The chassis will allow the next-generation rig to be offered in a multitude of bodystyles, including hard- and soft-top variants and a utilitarian pickup style.

 

Our illustrations show the likely move towards a slightly longer, slightly more modern design when compared to the original, which remained virtually unchanged for decades.

 

Expect the LR4′s 195 horsepower 2.7-liter diesel V6, which isn’t currently offered in North America, to be the standard powertrain in the next-generation Defender for global markets. If the model is earmarked for North American consumption, the advanced 5.0-liter V8 developed with Jaguar used in the LR4 and Range Rover Sport seems like a match made in heaven.

Was the 2012 Land Rover Defender saved by a new diesel engine?Land Rover says a new, cleaner diesel engine for the Defender is EU5-compatible. This means that, while the long-awaited, all-new Defender has yet to emerge, the current model's won a short-term fight for survival — at least in Europe.

 

The new, 2.2-liter oil burner uses a particulate filter to meet compliance with new EU regulations. The new engine retains the horsepower of the previous 2.4-liter diesel — 122hp — and 266 lb-ft at 2,000 rpm. The new model tops out at 90 mph, an increase of 8 mph.

 

Back in 2009, Land Rover was working on something they called "Project Icon," which was supposed to be the new Defender for the 2012 model year. That obviously didn't happen. Since being bought by Tata, they're now moving further into lifestyle territory with the Evoque.

 

But that doesn't mean the Defender's dead. In fact, Land Rover will be showing a new Defender concept at the Frankfurt show next month. The company's looking at a production version of this "new Defender," which will be expandable and adaptable for army versions, to hit the battlefield in 2015, and projects they must sell 60,000-80,000 units to make money.

 

We're hoping that becomes a reality. But at least for the moment, the current Defender's got a new lease on life with this new diesel engine.

ma intereseaza mai mult date tehnice cat si un voido cu teste de impact la saracia asta numai plastice....si daca mai este pe sasiu separat sau nu daca are punti sau brate etc..ce motorizare ce ughiuri ce pante etc.etc.
